    Ok i have test it.

The problem is that the ServiceTierAdministrationTool starts the RTC with start parameters.

I must check if the start parameters of the RTC contains the option to give the Credential Type and Certificate Name in DNSIdentity.

But i haven't found something like this at the moment.

I can change the tool to create a Setting.config at runtime and use the settings file in start parameter.
Then i must implement an own config section for the client setting to change the different settings per ServiceTier, because the DNSIdentity can be different from one NST to other NST.

I have add this to my next release list.

It's a super basic primer on the use, not going into 2009 with multiple builds or 2013, but the 'how-to' is up:

I plan to do another talking to mixed builds, and later 2013.

Some extra requests for the service tier. Although it is almost outdated...

-Can you add support to start the classic client for NAV2009R2?
-Can you add support to de/install a NAS for NAV2009R2 (and the possibility to start it from DOS without using a service)? My howto is useful to install it, but if it is possible to integrate it in your tool, it is a lot easier.

Another problem with performance of rebuilding of the screens and especially selecting the lines using a slow-connection remote desktop.

    This is my situation:
From my PC I connect to a remote server (server "A") using remote desktop. This connection is done over the internet having a low-speed connection.
From that server "A",I connect to another server (server "B") using, again, remote desktop. This connection is over LAN, so it is fast.

The problem is that the change in colour of the selected servicetier is very slow to go over that slow connection. It should be possible to disable that colouring (via a setup?) to speed up the selecting of a servicetier. After all, there is still the little triangle that shows the selected servicetier.

    Some other problem came up:

when launching the classic client/development client from the tool, one of my colleagues has this error:

    Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment
    "yes" non è un'opzione.

    Le opzioni esistenti sono:

    No, Sì
    OK

    Solution:
When you create the string to run the classic client/development client, don't use Yes or No, but use 1 or 0. This works in all languages.

BTW: I don't have the problem, because I have all in English :D

    And continue with a request:

Can you add the possibility to create the following files:
-command file with dos-command and parameters you use to start the development environment/classic client
-command file with dos-command and parameters you use to start the RTC/Windows Client
-config file you use to start the RTC/Windows Client

I continue to really like this tool. However, I do have a couple of suggestions. It would be nice to specify the default Service Startup. I always use manual and I have to change it every time. Also being able to default the Startup account would be nice. Being able to multi-select services for start/stop/delete would be nice too.

One minor "issue" the setting for Default WS Service Name seems to truncate after the replacement. E.g If I have "NAV Server [%1] WS" as the default setting when it creates the service name it seems to lose " WS". By putting the WS at the end I can sort the services by name and makes things easier to find.

    Hi,
When I use this tool connect to remote server. I cannot start the RTC or classic from this tool. I can see the services but the "Start RTC","Start Classic" buttons are disabled;I can connect remote service manually from RTC client and the tool works fine on local machine.
Did I miss any configuration on this tool?

    Thanks a lot

I am trying to create a service on a remote computer. I have a shared folder on the remote machine I want to have the service created in. When I specify the share in the Target folder I get:
Target folder is not on the target machine
I have given users access to the shared folder "Full Control", and I am in the local administrators group on the remote machine.

If I map a drive to the shared folder, I get:
Target folder is not a UNC Path

    Any other suggestions?

The reason I am doing this is to try and limit access to the remote machine but allow "general" users to create/manage their own services.

Another question, is there any way to default the "Computer" to be a server other than localhost.

Sorry but this doesn't work. This Tool can only Create Services on the actual connected machine. The user must have admin rights to get the WMI informations (List of services) of the remote machine.

Please look at the column "Error" is this enabled? If it is enabled there is a problem with some settings of this service.
  • GreatScott000GreatScott000 Member Posts: 40
The issue with the truncation of the WS name appears to have been human error. I can't reproduce it.

RE: unable to start 2013 services. There are no errors in the list and if I connect to the machine where the services reside I can use STA to start/stop them. I did just notice that there is 1 2013 service I can start/stop and that is the "default" one that is installed by the Setup. All the other 2013 services are "Instances" of that one. It is the instances I can not start from a remote server.

    Hi

Great work on this tool, it very neat

I do have a problem though, I have a local server running 2009 and 2013 tiers.

I can control the 2009, but the 2013 instances, I have no control over.
They appear on the list, but I cannot Restart, Change Account or anything.

    Is this a permission issue?

    I don't know exactly.

    Which operation system?

Did the services mark with an "Error" ? There is a column "Error".

Can you send me a Screenshot? Please make all Columns visible with the FieldColumnChooser in the left upper corner of the Grid.

I need "Service Path" and "Config Path".

    I can't reproduce the problem.

    - FIX: "Start Classic" parameter language problem.
    This seems to work now.

    But there is another problem:
When starting the classic client, you don't use the paremeter DATABASE INSTANCE.
    For example:
    Database Server=Localhost
    Database Instance=DEMO

You start the client with "servername=Localhost" and it should be "servername=Localhost\DEMO".

    Version 2.0.11 (2013-05-23):
    - ADD: Remote Desktop graphic improvements.

This is still a problem: on a slow remote desktop connection, it is still slow when hovering over the different services. The reason is that when you hover over a service, the colour of the row changes. But it changes from white to blue passing through a lot of different shades of blue. Each change in shade is send over the connection and this slows down a lot.

    Another problem:
If you start a service from services.msc and the user of that service has not yet the permission to run as service, Windows adds that permission automatically the first time.
If I start the service with that user the first time from the service tier administration tool, the service does not start and I don't find anything in the eventlog.
I found it out when I tried to start it from the services.msc and got the message that the permission was added.

At least some message why the service didn't start would be useful.

I don't know if it's only me but i'm experiencing that the tool is having a high CPU usage. We have a service tier server with probably 50 nav services and when we start the service tier admin tool it slows down the whole server and the CPU usage goes up remarkably. It was worse with previous versions but it's still a problem. Is this something you know anything about? Is someone else experiencing this problem?
