I think it doesn't fall under NDA to say what NDA means

    NDA=Non Disclosure Agreement.

and saying that there is a CTP of the product XY falls under NDA? :-k
  • davmac1davmac1 Member Posts: 1,283
They announced this at Convergence in public forums.
    That removes it from NDA.
  • WaldoWaldo Member Posts: 3,412
My opinion... We're not supposed to show it anywhere. The download is available for starting to learn, converting own apps, .. so partner related stuff.

Customers don't give a damn about NDA. They know now all partners have it, so they want to see it.

That's also the reason why I didn't put anything on my blog (yet ).
I'm figuring out what is the best way to inform everyone, without breaching NDA in any way.

Bravo Eric! There's a good businessman with high ethics.

Out of curiousity, when was the last time MSFT sued someone for breaching the NDA?

blamed by waldo himself.. shame on me.. O:)

you're right, that doesnt make it easier to wait for an official marketing preview for customers..

its called "technical preview for partners"...so its not made for showing the software to non-partners but for us to test our apps and discuss our experiences with the software to get ready and contribute in improving NAV 2009.

so lets just do that instead of discussing about NDA

It was not my intention to blame anyone. I just had a comment ... because indeed one of my customer wants to see it.
Anyway, doesn't matter .. they would have figured it out anyway, wouldn't they.

    BlackTiger,

Can you tell why you don't like the new version?
What is so bad about it?

I think the pace Microsoft is changing/adding things in NAV, is good.
In NAV 2009 they introduce a new kind of form: page. And the new report designer is much better. But for both objects you are still able to use the familiar objects.

I don't know yet if customers are going to like the new page-objects and role center. We'll see. Probably everybody has to get used to it. And learn the advantages of them.
    I've seen a live-demo and I liked it.

I've downloaded it already. Have only tried it for 5 minutes. Gonna play more with it soon. :)

I think MS has not developed RoleTailored client to been throw away by partners and users.
Off course with webservices it is possible to create your own UI. But why do that if there are two standard UI's? Seems to me a waste of time.

Here are some shortcuts that I found (type Shortcuts in the help search):
    Field Filter: Ctrl + Shift + I
    Lookup: F4 and Ctrl + U
    Flow Filter: Ctrl + Shift + F

In general, I think that "some" retraining is required.

I think (hope) it will be just like the 4.0 menusuite.
Existing < 4.0-users wanted their old menu back. And new users off course never knew the old menu, so they just started working with the menu (that often looked familiar to them because the already used outlook).

    :-k

My guess, Unicode probably won't be implemented until the classic client is not supported and released. And we will have the classic client until we can develop on something else.

About performance, I think just like any development MS does the alpha and beta are slow, but they have enough time to improve the performance.

As far as UI, it's not great, but has a potential for great things.
I don't know if you remember the 1.0 version of Navision. We worked with 2.6 without a debugger.

Everybody have been bitching about the classic dev environment, about report writer, and I can see MS point of view of not too alienate the existing developers/NSC and customers.

So if you don't like it, you can still work with the classic client. Actually you as developer will work and develop with classic client. You don't have to implement the new UI, stay with the classic till you are happy with the new UI.

I hated the Menu suite, but got used to it.

I don't like the new UI, but I'm guessing I will get used to it and will have to learn the new UI even if won't be as efficient as the classic.

Navision has to move to the 21st centry and it won't easy, but we have to.
My guess most existing clients will wait till the next version is released before they upgrade.
For new clients, the new UI will work fine.
    my 2 cents

Does anyone posting on this thread have any respect of the NDA that they signed, or do you all simply believe that you can sign a contract but not be bound by its conditions.

I guess MS need to make an example of someone here, and revoke their MBS partner status.

Link on https://mbs.microsoft.com/partnersource ... n/2009.htm: Download: Technical Preview (partner confidential)
From the download page: please be aware of the confidentiality clause which prevents you from showing any of the content to customers or other external third parties.
And when the VPC starts, it opens with the EULA that exactly describes the confidentially of the software.
So you are definetely bound to this EULA. If you don't accept it, you have to remove the software. Ow, you already did

It is not very clear what is under NDA and what not. So safest is to not even talk about it.

Starting with rumors about unicode, performance, ... is not really smart to do ... (not in a business way ... and really ... please form an opinion when tested a bit thoroughly...).

    3. "Page" saves all values on "Escape"! Tested on "Sales Order"->Lookup any "Location"->Go to "Advanced"->Choose "Edit" from context menu->Change something ("Name")->Press "Escape"

    4. No "Ctrl+PgUp"/"Ctrl_PgDn" to navigate between "tabs".

The name of this forum is:

Upcoming version NAV "6.0" (formerly NAV 5.1)
    Version "6.0"
Discuss all Navision topics here (both functional/technical) of the upcoming new version.

    Maybe mibuso should be busted?

NAV has had public sessions discussing this product - they want everyone to know about it. They just don't want the partner demo to go to endusers.

I was asked to clarify the current NDA situation regarding CTP3, which is available for download on PartnerSource. I'm hardly the best person for this, as I'm in development, so I'll just quote the information sent to me by Michael Rosenørn (who is in our Global Product Managment group):
“We have had several questions in regards to how much or how little can be shared with customers around NAV 2009. The message is quite clear – as it is stated on the site for the technical preview – this is partner confidential and the purpose of the Technical Preview is to help you (- the partner) get ready. We will release a marketing VPC by the end of September 2008. By then it will be time to show the solution to your customers and prospects. Until then please be aware of the confidentiality clause which prevents you from sharing any of the content with customers or other external third parties.

So all NDAs that you have signed as a partner or a mvp are in full effect. If you need to share anything there is a customer ready version of the Statement of Direction will give the customer a good idea of where we are heading . . . “

These means you're welcome to discuss NAV 2009 information that is publicly available, but please don't talk about stuff you have privileged access to.

NAV 2009 is a bold step for the product and there's obviously lots to discuss, but hopefully you can understand that, at this point, access to information about the product has to be carefully managed. It's important that partners have a chance to ramp up on the product prior to wider availability.

From a dev team perspective, we love getting feedback, positive or negative. (I prefer negative, it's more useful...) We've heard a lot from the partners who are part of our early access programs, and look forward to hearing even more in the future...

ok. having a look at the development of this thread i understand
that you're not happy with the preview being discussed in public
    (=mibuso.com).
is there an internal platform that microsoft recommends
    for partners to discuss ctp3?
  • WaldoWaldo Member Posts: 3,412
Most important is msconnect, but that's (afaik) only for the partners who are involved in beta program.
I know the question has been asked by some partners, so I assume they're working on it.. :| .
