Merge dimension values

Hi!

Does anyone have a tip as to how to merge two dimension values i NAV 4.0? Our customer has two departments which has been merged and they want to merge the two previously used dimension values to a new one, including all references in posted documents, ledger entries, etc.

I was thinking as follows, but need som feedback as to whether it's a good idea or not:

1. REM out the code in table 349 - Dimension value so that the OnDelete check on whether a dimension code has been used does not run.
2. Delete one of the dimension values.
3. Renumber the other dimension value to the deleted one. Navision now runs thru all the related tables and changes the dimension values.
4. Remove the REM and enjoy my merged dimension codes.


Anyone tried anything similar?

    Hi,

    I would rather suggest adding third, new one, and perhaps write some report to add new one to every entry marked by either of two old ones, if you need to have old data "merged". This way you won't loose any historic information.

    Performed my operation with our customer today, and I can report that it seems to have work out just fine. Tested with some tables and it seems nav has merged them correctly. At least the sum of records are correct.
