How can I edit the normal.dot-template (Word)

white-horsewhite-horse Member Posts: 3
Hello!

I have a question to the Word normal.dot. At first a short description of your system:

- Navision 4.0
- Word and Navision is using by Terminal-Server (Citrix PS 3.0)

If we create a new offer in Navision we are able to add a Microsoft Word file. Now it is necessaray that we change the margin from 2,5 cm to 5 cm. How can I do this for all time? If I change the normal.dot on the terminal server it dosen't work.

Thanks for answers

Patrick

This is really not the right forum to ask this question. There are many Word groups on the public MSFT usenet servers, and the people in there are very helpful. Check out the Word groups on news.microsoft.com. Also try to find a TS group, because the folks in the Word groups may not know about that.

It probably has something to do with how individual profiles are stored. You should probably have normal.dot replaced for every user.

    Hello DenSter,

I know how I can edit the normal.dot for the default word-file, but it dosent work. Therfore I asked in this forum. It is possible to use a customized word-template which Navision can load for a specified situation.

Mybe it is possilbe to create a kind template share, where we can save all needed word-templates for different situations.

I hope I could describe my problem a little better as the first time.

    Thanks for help.

Ah I see... Well I would not even go down the normal.dot path but go straight to a specific template for a specific purpose. I don't know how to program a new document based on a certain .dot file, you'll have to find that out by searching for VBA code samples. Then you could use automation variables inside C/AL to automate that part.

There actually might already be some standard functionality for this, there are areas where there is a Word merge option that may use .dot files. I have not personal experience with this from within Navision though. Maybe others can chime in on this topic.
