How to get Navision Developer Software and License

A friend wanted me to help customize his company's Navision application. How should I go about getting Navision software? What is the best information source (book, online learning, training etc..) for a software developer to learn Navision. Any favorite books on the subject?

    Demo client is for free - ask your friend for the install CD (of course, I do not know about their signed license agreement with NSC if they are allowed to give the install CD to someone...

    May be that something is for download there on MIBUSO...

    there is some devel. documentation, but best doc is from MS (but is not cheap).

    You will also need your friends company to license the application designer granule for Navision, cost about $8000. without it you can only do superficial changes to Navision.
    It allows access to code units, and cal code on forms. You will likely need other licenses as well depending on what you want to do.

    To use ocx controls you need a license for that.

    No books on the subject that I am aware of

    Actually, you could sign up for being an NSC... :D Why not? I mean if you intend to learn Navision then maybe you could sell this knowledge to others too as an implementor. And if you will sell it you could also sell licences, why not? And it means why not become an NSC?
    Do It Yourself is they key. Standard code might work - your code surely works.

    Nothing wrong with that, but wouldn't you then also have to license the Developer license granule in addition to the application designer granule, Last time I checked that was $26000 USD, plus the $8000 application designer. Might have changed but when we looked into it back in 1999 - 2000 that was the case.
