Unable to connect to NAV2009 SQL after upgrading client server from Windows 2008R2 to Windows 2012

A client gets this error after having upgraded an old Windows 2008R2 server to Windows 2012:

The following ODBC error occurred:
Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified"
Status-ID: IM002

We have found several threads suggesting to re-install the Native Client for SQL, but that didn't help.

The ODBC drivers look like this:

I am guessing it might be the old SQL Native Client version 2005.x causing problems. Seems like a leftover.

Could this be the problem?
How do we correctly un-install / un-register this old driver?
Other suggestions?
Regards
Peter

If it's working correct on other machines you could try reinstalling the Nav client

    Re-installing NAV didn't help either.

Then I would try to transfer the ODBC drivers from a working configuration to your problem machine. There are some websites (use Google) that elaborate how to perform these steps.

Really strange problem anyway. I've connected NAV 2009 clients to SQL for quite some time but never experienced anything like this and never had to do anything with ODBC configuration.
