Classic Client Crashes when viewing report layout

I have a developer who is trying to view the layout of a report but the client keeps on crashing. This is the process he is doing to view the layout:
1. opens up Nav Classic Client for sql server - build 32275
2. opens up the necessary database
3. Goes to tools and object designer
4. select reports and select a report
5. selects design and then view layout
6. the classic client crashes
He has all of the necessary software on it to be able to view the report.
I have tried it on my pc and it crashes also. We have opened the database in an newer build and it works fine. It doesn't matter what report.
