Serial Number search

hi!
can you search for a Serial No (or Tracking No) when you don't know the Item No?
At invoicing (or ordering) stage, our client would like to search by the serial no, instead of first selecting the Item number then the serial number.
ideally they would scan the serial number & the item is automatically found.
any ideas?!?
thanks
Dave

I am not aware of anything similar so you would have to develop it.
It'll need quite some work I think.0 -
thought so ..... but was hoping that there is an easy solution0

In version 5.0, the Navigate screen allows you to search by serial and/or lot number.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog

do you need to switch any setup options to have this available?0

No, it's available by default. The database I'm seeing this is the NA database.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog

Wow I can't believe I didn't notice that. Not that I use serial nos much, but that's a great improvement. Thanks Alex. BTW it's also in W1.
At this rate Serial numbers may one day be usable in NavisionDavid Singleton0 -
hi!
i've opened a Cronus database in ver 5, went to FM - Receivables - Invoices, but cannot see how i can enter the serial number instead of having to first enter the Item No, then the Item tracking Lines.
could you tell me what i'm missing?
thanks

You can't.
You'll need to develop it...0 -
but in one of the above posts, Alex said that it's there by default0

No, you don't need to develop it. It's there out of the box.
One of the way to get to the Navigate screen is by clicking on:
Sales & Marketing --> History --> Navigate
This screen is also available in the History folder in all other modules.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog

That's for posted invoices (which is also useful).
But my problem is when you're entering a new invoice/order & the user knows the Serial No of the item but not the Item no. Can the user just enter the Serial No of a product instead of having to first find the Item no?

Keep in mind, depending on your dataset, is is VERY possible to have duplicate serial numbers - typically different products from different vendors. We see that quite often.0

And what about "Warehouse-History-Item Tracing"? You just enter the Ser. No filter and it will find all entries for this serial no. and you can look at what you need...0
