Questions about Navision ver. 4.0

ViliusVilius Member Posts: 2
Hi,

Can You help to make a decision about implementing new version of Navision (4ver.).
It would be nice to have some functionality of version 4, but we are afraid of bugs:(
Any comments are welcome:
1. Are there any problems with performance? (70-80 users, DB native).
2. Has anyone noticed any problems while working with this new version?
3. Have You got any information about service packs for Navision 4?
When will they be available?

Thank You very much.
Vilius

As usual every new version has new bugs... There is a rule that goes something like: With every bug that is fixed, two new bugs are created.

In every new version known bugs are fixed and problems are solved. But almost always new functionality is implemented. This new functiobality contains bugs. It's just a fact.

If you do not want any bugs, don't upgrade... But then you will not have the benefits of new functionality.

You should check MBS for performance issues when implementing an 80 user system. It depens on the number of people that will do database modifications, to many people can lead to record locking. Things like posting at night and batch bookings can solve most of these problems.

Check MBS or the partner source guide page (whatever it's called lately) for service packs.

I think the performance is nearly the same as in 3.70. So this shouldn't be a decision criterion.

Yes, we do. We implemented the Navision 4.0 Server for a customer to have the functionality of determining sessions. But the problem is, that all users have to be super-users otherwise the server crashes. I don't know if this problem exists with all language versions. MS solves this problem. They think they can solve this week, but otherwise they said it is a major difficulty.

There are two critical updates available (but just for NA version). So ask your Partner or MS in your country for updates.

this is very good reason. not to go for 4.0...

As MS will solve this problem very quick (i hope so) it is a good reason just for some days. Of course nobody wants all users to be super-users. This shows how MS is testing their products. LOL

Is the problem the new flowfield requirements described in the "Late changes" document? That now NA can't calculate a flowfield unless the user has permissions to the table "below".
