Item tracking lines issue

Hello
i m having issues with serial number tracking in nav v4. I have set up a finished goods item to be manufactured as a serialised item. Now i manage to get through the standard manufacturing process with no problems until i try and complete the production order. At the output stage i assign the serial number which then attaches it to the production order and the sales order. But when i try and complete the production order it says i need to assign a serial number. i look in the item tracking lines and it says that the serial number is there but there is no quantity to handle, and that it has already been handled.
i now cannot process the production order and backflush the items on the BOM as it says i need a serial number WHICH IS THERE!!! ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
please help before i need to buy a new laptop after throwing my mouse through the screen
