Positive/Negative Adjustments of stock.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...
It would appear that on our system when you do a positive or negative adjustment that one side gets posted to the stock account and the other to the material variance account?
Is there anyway to do an adjustment without it affecting the general ledger?
Thanks in advance...

The reason you would do an inventory adjustment is when the inventory in your system is not correct, or needs to be updated for other reasons.
Let's say your system says you have 10 Items x that are worth $10 a piece to you. Your general ledger will say that the value of your inventory is $100. Now if you discover that you actually have 5 items instead, you would do an inventory adjustment right? Then your general ledger should also reflect the actual value. You can't have 5 items in inventory that are $10 a piece, yet have a general ledger that says that you have $100 of inventory.
Maybe I don't understand your question, but I think the general ledger SHOULD be modified every time you do an adjustment.0 -
There are times when you want the g/l to not be affected.
We have this situation where we carry a manufacture part and a subsititute part. both same cost. some times we find an item on the shelf is the manufacture part when the computer thinks it is a subsitute part. We make a positive and negative on the respective parts.
in this case set up a new posting group and set the inventory and variance accounts to be the same.
then on the item journal where you are doing the positive and negative adjustments, change the posting group to this new one you just created.0
