Navision 4.00 and Navision 4.00 SP1 on same computer

SchtibuSchtibu Member Posts: 5
I can't install the Navision Version 4.00 and the new Navision 4.00 SP1 on the same computer. There is always the message, that I had already installed this version on the computer. But it think this should be possible. I have customers with Version 4.00 and I will have customers with 4.00 SP1. On my computer i will run both versions. What do you think about this problem?

Thank you for your inputs.

Copy the 4.00 installation to another directory before you install 4.01

You can also search the forum for other topics about this.

Thank you for your answer. I tried it, but I had to deinstall Navision 4.00 after copying it. After this, the installation of Navision 4.01 was successfull.

Yes, but because you copied 400 before you deinstalled it, you still have it.

You can only have one proper installed version of navision, the other ones are just copies of the client folder on the installation CD.

Yes that's true, but I can't have a proper installation of Navision 4.00 and also a proper installation of Navision 4.01. It is only possible that one of this both different versions is registert in Windows.

Are you using the same service for both versions of Navision?

If so create another service and assign them there own service. That should work.

Could you explain what you mean with service?

I had this same problem; here is the response from Microsoft (it worked for me).
SP1 is using the same GUID numbers in registry as Navision 4.0 as this is still a 4.0 release just a service pack (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\<GUID>).

Therefore it is not possible to have both 4.0 and 4.0 SP1 installed at the same time.

Each local version however has its own GUID, which makes it possible to install many different localized versions on the same computer, so as a workaround you can download the W1 executables and run your NA SP1 database with W1 executables and this way get around the problem.

Yes that is correct. This is how most of us that work in more than one version do it. I only have the latest Navision actually installed, and for other versions I have the client folders copied to my hard drive.

I mean the Navision database server but what I said for this instance is totally wrong as I wasn't aware the GUID was the same. Makes sense though.

Okey I see. So I have to download the Navision 4.00 SP1 W1 Client and use this one instead of the Navision 4.00 SP1 Swiss Client. Is this right?

No, you can keep copies of all versions in a subdirectory, so you can use them.
The last version you install. In your case : 4.00 SP1 Swiss.
In my case 4.00 SP1 IT. And I have the clients of almost all IT and W1 versions on my portable in case I need them for a customer, but those are not installed.

From what I hear, to run both versions, install one as world-wide and the other as, for example, US. This seems to be working for us.

I have confirmed that installing 4.0 as World -wide and then installing 4.0 with sp1 as US works as long as you use two different client folders. I am running both versions on my computer and there are 2 others in my office who are doing the same.
