Drink bottled water
Actually that's my recommendations for visiting any country for the first time 8)
Rashed : India is a big country with lot of variety (flaura & fauna, environment, food products etc.) and pointers will depend on the location to be visited.
Anyhow Harry's suggestion should be religously followed.
It's New Delhi.
I got the following yesterday from a native dermatologist.
bottled water (or Soda). In restaurant ask to open the bottle yourself.
well cooked food,
No shorts (even in hot weather),
watch for pickpockets and your stuff. Good walking shoes.
Take a prescription pill, can't remember the name but will ask.
It's for stomach related bugs.
Toilette paper (most bathrooms use water in india).
Bug spray.
Don't wear noticeable cloths.

Welcome to my city. The festive season will start next month and you will notice a lot of colours, fireworks. The weather will be just fine, neither hot nor cold. You can enjoy evenings.
The suggestions are must to follow except for shorts. That will be the idle time for shorts rest depends on the hotel you stay in. Most A class hotels will not require any bug spray but its good to keep, just in case
A foreigner came to India and enjoyed good spicy Indian food. Next day when he came out of toilet he said: Now I understand why Indians use water instead of paper. This paper can catch fire :whistle: :whistle:
on subject of india, I'm going next months for 3 weeks to india for the first time, work related.
Should be interesting.
Any pointers are welcome.
I think you will love it, India is definitely a place worth seeing.
In terms of pickpockets etc. I feel a lot safer in India than in D.C.
But:
Don't drink water except if the bottle is clearly sealed and has not been tampered with;
If the bottle is opened, send it back;
Don't put ice in drinks;
Don't brush your teeth except with bottled water;
Don't open your mouth when you are in the shower;
(take this from someone that made all the above mistakes and seriously paid for them )
I appreciate you noticing, I missed it. I should have made a special post for 2000, :oops: ah well 3,000 is not far away.
Well just looking and its seems like the VM Ware post was #2,000 and VM ware is something I am really getting into right now, so its probably appropriate.
Anyway well done to the whole community, and also lets not forget the new members out there that are contributing by asking the questions that gives us an opportunity to answer. I have followed MiBuSo closely since its inception, and I must say that in 2008 the site really has come of age and truely deserves the respect that it has in the community.
Luc I take my hat off to you. (well I would; if you had avtars and I could then change mine )
