Performance Problems after Database Backup

Hello everyone,
We run a 14GB Database (V2.00C) with 13GB Data in it. The backup is running online and it creates two backup files with 2GB and 140MB in size. After the backup the performance decreases and Windows Taskmanager on Server says that used memory for the server process increases slowly from a low value to the cache size of 350MB.

For me it seems that the first user who logs in after backup cause a reorg of the server cache. This takes about two or three hours!

(I have a similar effect if I increase the database size)

Bad solutions for us are:
- backup offline (Some batch jobs will run at night)
- dummy user login after backup (We don't have to much time to do this now and the database will increase rapidly wich result in loger backup times)

Has anyone better ideas ??
Many Thanks for your help.

Couple times I has some problem, there was couse of incorect data structure (HDD errors, NF bugs...). Try create new database, checking of database was not helped for me, it simply says everything is OK. All this stuff looks like NF have problems with free blocks allocation.
Did you using NF backup ? Did you use OCX or CF? Your HDD have FAT or NTFS ?

We use NF Backup, no OCX or C/Front at this time and the db is running with NTFS.

I would not recommend to copy db without stopping Navision server service.

Even if there are no active sessions, you never can be sure that all data was writen to db file from cache or that someone will not connect after you have checked active sessions.

I don't know about comiting cache then stoping server, but if it not comited or some users are active it can couse loose of couple minutes data. It can't be taked serously comparing of loose of couple days or mounth data.
    I hope NF can restore trashed cache. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif" />

I not sure, but looks like NF uses FAT calls to HDD. This can couse errors, then managing free blocks in database.
How many time takes NF backup?
Try to backup *.fdb using bat:
    1.Stop NF server
2.Copy *.fdb to temp disk or directory
    3.start NF server
[1-3]steps tekes up to 1 hour with SCSI.
4.Backup temp disk or dir to tape or another media.

If you are sure taht no clients in database, then you can skip steps 1 and 3.

Hope isn't enough, if you cannot guarantee that the backup is correct. <img border="0" title="" alt="" src="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif" />
