Navision 3.01

hello,

i am running 3.01 and need to know where i go to export specific data files
on my server. the files include inventory, customer, vendor etc....

finally when i export them what format choices do i have - if any?

    Depending on what you want to do, there are few options.

    one is to just cut and paste into excel.

    call up list of customers(show columns you want), highlight, cut and paste. Quick and easy.

    Or you can make a dataport, go to object designer and create a new dataport. Use online help to get started. Options are basic to export, comma delimited, fixed width., it will be a text file.

    hello again,
    i apologize as i am somehwhat of a neophyte with navision technical stuff.

    i would like to know how i can layout certain data such as customer and product where all the fields i would want to copy and paste would be made available. not being a programmer i am a bit confused as to the approach.

    finally where would i go to access the object designer? where in the menu system does it reside?

    The object designer can be accessed using shft+F12

    The object designer contains all tables which you can export via copy/past or dataports.

    I've never used 3.01 but do you have on your menu

    Tool->Object Designer?

    Then you can click Tables.

    Go to "Item" table ->RUN

    Select all copy & paste into excel - would be your easiest way.

    If you are going to only want to cut and paste a few columns, it is easier to use the standard Navision list. such as customer list. or inventory list that you get when you press the lookup button on the customer card for example. then you can set filters on the customer card and your list will also be filtered. And you can hide and show columns so you don't have the whole table. If you go directly to the table, you can also hide columns but there are so many it will take a while to get it to look the way you want. and column layout in a table doesn't get saved in the zup file, so next time you look at it. all the columns will be there again. for the inventory table this can be a lot.

    if the columns you need are not on the Navision list. then you can add then as long as you are licensed for forms design, ( which all end users should be) on the form (look up list) press Ctrl F2, it will open the forms designer and you can add the columns you need, If you are not licensed for the forms designer, then going to the underlying table is your only option.
