Upgrade from 4.00 to 4.00 SP1 - Question

jeremydjeremyd Member Posts: 22
I have a question about how to upgrade Navision 4.00 to SP1. The newest upgrade toolkit doesn't describe how to upgrade 4.00 to SP1. I can't seem to find any other sort of information out there...it's almost like this information doesn't exist..

So I was wondering if it is as simple as installing 4.00 SP1, and then selecting the existing 4.00 database, and clicking Yes to have Navision convert the database. Is that all that is necessary? Or is there a different upgrade toolkit that I'm not aware of?

Thanks for the help!

I would back the database and restore it with SP1 client. THen you have import/merge the SP1 objects, and there are about 600-700 objects.

I also found I needed to replace the extended stored procedure to have Windows logins work.
There are also a few changes not in the change log which I have reported to them.

I installed SP1 on a test machine and tried to connect to a copy of our development database, and it asked me 'do you want to convert the database?', to which I responded yes, and it churned for a while. I was under the impression this conversion process updated the objects. Is there a .fob file sitting on the installation CD that we should be merging in to the 'converted database'?

Everything appeared to work, and it looks like version numbers on a lot of the objects changed, but I never explicitly did a step called 'import/merge the SP1 objects', so now you got me worried...

(I installed the extended stored procedures and all that too).

    Thanks,
    Steve

    This is weird. :-k

Opening an old database with a new version should only create some internal database changes.

Are you sure this has happend? What about the data in the database. Is this realy the old database?

    Very strange story...

Well, I need to double-check how I compared versions. I was querying against the Object table but need to re-visit my query.

My question remains, though, how to import the SP1 versions of the objects, then?

    Thanks,
    Steve

You need to import the fob SP1 and if you have have changes in your db you need to merge those objects

I guess that's my problem, it is not clear where/what this fob SP1 file is.

I find numerous *.fob files on the 2 CDs, but it's not clear which one to use.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Is this fob provided on the product CD?

If not, you need to create it yourself from the cronusdatabase

Filer objectversion '*4.00.01*' if I'm correct.

Hey! I was just answering that while you were asking

    Thanks, Mark.

I sure don't see the .fob, but you're right, I could get them all from the Cronus DB. I will head off and give that a go. Thanks.

The objects are in a fob in the database folder for SP1 but also include the development toolkit. There is also an fbk of the new default database. I just updated a 4.0 with quite a few custom objects so I created a new database restored the fbk file in the database folder then made my customizations then exported the objects to a fob. I opened a copy of my database in sp1 and answered yes to the conversion (it was very quick) then imported my object fob from the cutomized 40SP1 file. This worked very well.

    Good plan.

The fbk was easy to find, but it's still unclear where this fob is. What's the filename?

    Thanks,
    Steve

In the Preloaded Database folder, there is a fob called 'NA400Aallobjects.fob'. I downloaded my SP1 folder info from Partnersource but I amsure it is also on the CDs. This also includes all of the hot fixes and other 'fixes' that have been released since 4.0 first came out. If you still do not find it - send me your email and I can zip it and send it to you.

I have neither the folder nor the fob.

    That explains that.

    Thanks,
    Steve
