Navision startup error

garfgarf Member Posts: 10
Hi,

I've installed Navision 4.0 client on my pc but after the install it doens't run :!:
It keeps saying:

The operating system gave error (87):
Parameter not right.

OK

After you click OK nothing happens.

I need to have this program running because I must use it for school.
Hope someone has an answer and/or sollution...
I've even formatted my hard-drive but even after that it keeps giving an error msg.

Thanks already

If you don't need Navision to run on SQL, you can just copy the client-subdir to your computer. The client-subdir is \\client\program files\Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision\client. Of course this will not install some dll's, connect some file-types. But you can run "fin.exe" and from there open the DB (database.fdb). You must also remove the read-only attribute of the files.

In which way you are starting the Navision? Shortcut created by installation? Your own shortcut? Some old shortcut?

    Hi,

I have met this error when no license file (flf) existed in the fin.exe or finsql.exe directory.
  • garfgarf Member Posts: 10
I have a license file but I still get the error.
Is there a certain way I should name the file?

    FIN.FLF maybe?

If the license file does not help you, then try deleting the *.zup file from your c:\Documents and Settings\...

I tried deleting the license file but when I start Navision the program automaticly asks the first CD so I put it in.
The program than copies a FLF file from the CD on the pc and I get the error 87 again. When I put the right license file (from school) in the navision map it just ignores it and searches for the default license.

I did not find the zup file in documents and settings.
Could you give me a specified link?

Don't start Navision through shortcuts in Start menu. Try to start navision directly (start fin.exe or finsql.exe from the client folder). Is it better now?

    Than next step:

Delete all *.?mt files (.smt, .hmt etc.) in client folder and in language subfolders (in ENU etc.).
    Delete *.dmp file too.

    No *.?mt files found:
    D:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision\Client>dir/s *.?mt
Het volume in station D heeft geen naam.
    Het volumenummer is 44E8-E4FC
    Bestand niet gevonden

    No *.dmp files found:
    D:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision\Client>dir/s *.dmp
Het volume in station D heeft geen naam.
    Het volumenummer is 44E8-E4FC

    Is that good? :|

Try copying the Client directory form the CD (CD\program files\microst....) localy and execute the finsql.exe or fin.exe from that folder.

May be it is some problem with permissions, because I found this error, and it is connected with Samba (shared folders etc.). But there are articles about this error for many others applications and it seems that there is some wrong library in the system. If you have Visual Studio, you can try to "debug" the process (you will see, which dlls are loaded and than where is the problem...).

This error is too general to know, where is the problem. You can try to unregister and reregister all DLLs for Navision (regsvr32 /u dllname, regsvr32 dllname).

Ok did it with a few dlls in Navision directory
and I recieved this error on a few dlls:
When I try to unregister the dll:
    http://www.pc-time.be/images/Navision/dbm.jpg

    When I try to reregister:
    http://www.pc-time.be/images/Navision/dbm2.jpg

What's wrong with these dlls? And why isn't the problem solved when I copy the files from the CD to the navision folder...

This is normal behavior. These DLLs are not DLLs which need to be registered. You can ignore this error or this dlls...
