Language Module

Hello,

I'm using NF NL 2.01. In the object designer I can export and import language modules (Tools-Language Module-Import or Export). How does this work and where can I use it for?

I thought it was for the following:
I've created a report with several labels. In those labels I have entered a NLG and a ENG CaptionML. Those reports work perfect in the NLG and the ENG database. When I export the language module of the specific report, it shows me a .flm file with the NLG or the ENG text (depends on the language you choose when exporting). I tried to import the .flm file in a new report so I could re-use the text. That didn't work..

Second question:
In a report you can enter Text Constants (C/AL Globals). How can you use those Text Contants?

Language modules are used when you want the whole application to be in a different language. eg. you have French employees and your Navision application only has the NL & EN language installed. You can buy a FR language module and import that into the database.

When you want to translate newly created objects, you use Translate -> Export. That way, you get a text-file with all the captions used in a range of objects. You can use the Navision Localization Workbench for translating, or write your own tools. After translating, you import this file back using Translate -> Import.

Text constants are used eg. with ERROR or MESSAGE statements. The whole idea is that you provide translations for all messages and error-messages. You give this text a name, eg. txc001. Then you use ERROR(txc001) in your code. Navision will show the message then in the right language.

The translate fucntion doesn't work but that's because we don't have the license for the Navision Localization Workbench?

Another question about the language module. We would like to buy a french NF (2.6) for our subsidiary in France. Some people in the dutch office would also like to work with it so according to what you're saying we just buy a dutch language module and import it in the french database? According to a french NSC this wasn't possible in NF but only in Attain.

You have to buy a granule for each extra language you want to use in your application. In Belgium, we are using the Multi-Language functionality since Navision Financials 2.01, so I would guess this should be possible with Financials as well.

For the menu-option Translate to be available, you'll need a developers-license.

The Localization Workbench is a separate tool.

Thanks again Luc! I appreciate your time and information (also on other topics). What I read about MultiLanguage on the internet is that it's only availbale in Canada and Belgium? Is that the case? I don't get any response from Navision Netherlands.

Starting from Attain (3.01 or 3.10), this multi-language functionality is available in every country. But I guess not every country is already using every feature (eg. some countries don't yet use the textconstants).

As I have still the same problem, I got after long hours of talking to our NSC this information:
For all Navision-Versionen below Attain (3.x) you won't get any language modules except you are located in Belgium. Only in Belgium Navision tested the multi-language functionality an released it with the 3.0 Version for all countries.
