Error when consuming a work order

We're getting an error when manufacturing tries to post to the consumption journal:

Reserved Qty. (Base) must be reduced

They have never seen this error before today and swear they aren't doing anything different than they normally do. They've tried unreserving everything they can think of, but no luck. Unfortunately we don't have a developer's license so I can't look at anything behind the scenes.

I know it's tough without knowing the internals of our system, but that's all I've got to go by right now! Thanks for any help!
