Data Archiving

Our client is using Navision Financials (2.5) with an add on. Problem? Database size grows fast and impedes performance.
We need a method to archive data on a quarterly basis. Has anyone experiance with doing this in this environment, and if so what do you suggest is the best approach? Thanks.

First of all, what is the size that your database is set at presently and how much of that size is actually occupied by data? It may not be that you require archiving but rather, just some redesign and/or optimization. One of the methods of optimization you may want to consider is defragmenting the database. You can also statically set the database cache size on the server which would affect performance. I would like to have advise on the 'Expand Command'.
I have a 32 GB licensed database. It is actually created at 5 GB. 80 % of the database is used and I am getting the navision Warning telling me that it's time for me to do something...

Is it advisable to defrag or to expand a database?
