the network itself-- not only navision.
if we try to perform some other work from the server(except navision) it becomes exceptionally slow. it is happening when tax calculation batch job is run . why is it so? how to do the batch job without hampering other works from the server???????????
Navision is a very resource-intensive application, it sucks the system resources right out of your system when it is doing something difficult. It is recommended that you run Navision on a dedicated server machine, and it sounds to me like you have it installed on a server that you also use for different purposes.
Well there are multiple things you can do, and these are my opinions about it:
Like DenSter said: get Navision to run on a dedicated server, and get the other applications on another server (perhaps you can also optimize network)
You can also do a so-called "work-around". Perhaps it is possible to run te batch at the end of a workday, so no one uses the rest of the network and the batch can run. This way other users won't notice it/get hampered and the batch will keep running anyways. =;

The problem does not have to be on the server, you can also have problems in e.g. your router. You should also test this before you go on buying a new server.
We have lots of clients running Navision on their primairy file server with no problems what so ever.
