ODATA and STARTSESSION

I want to use STARTSESSION in the oninsert trigger of a table.
When I create a record in the page it also works. But if the page is shared as a web service and the record is created via ODATA, then STARTSESSION is not executed.
I would only be left with the task queue as a trigger and process the data further.
Is there another solution?
Unfortunately I have to exclude SOAP, because the partner only supports ODATA.
