Activating "SN Warehouse Tracking" afterwards

this has been asked before, but with no real answer. We have just one Item Tracking Code with "SN Specific Tracking", "SN Purchase Tracking", "SN Transfer Tracking" and "SN Sales Tracking" enabled assigned to many items. No we want to use bins for some locations, and in order to create Warehouse Entries with the serial number populated, we need to enable "SN Warehouse Tracking".
Of course this is forbidden, since we already created ledger entries for that tracking code. Using new items is not an option. Our database is 1.4 TB and there are many documents with existing items that can't be changed.

What are the problems to expect when we enable warehouse tracking? How can we deal with them? Are there other suggestions?
