Did you tried with the Designer?
What Yzhums suggesting will help but you need a VS code Developer access for this.

hi, thanks for your replies.
I want this
to look like this
so essentially, the value boxes I want them as wide as possible, and of course the same for the caption fields
I half way managed to achieve this with fixed layout group - group but as soon as I add a second group, it breaks down
