Creating Report DataItems via VS Code

I have gone through the tutorials and trainings on VS Code. I think by far, the most difficult part of it all, is creating report data items via VS Code. Even using the standard snippet, this gets very cumbersome. When I tried creating a very complex dataitem (e.g. a BC Sales Invoice), I ended up switching to the classic DE and creating the data item, then export the object to txt, and copy and paste the text object for data items back to VS Code. I did this like a year ago.

1 year later, is there any new improvements in VS Code to make this experience any better?
