Edit a code field in BC16

Is it possible to change a (indexed) codefield from 10 length to 20 length in BC16
e.g. field1 in table 5401
I am in desperate need of 20 characters instead of 10.

Its totally possible but you are going to have to update all the fields that associate to the Variant Code field
off the top of my head BOM's, Production Order, Assembly, Bins, Transfer, Sales, Purchase, Requisitions, Service, Journal Lines, Item Ledger, Value Entry, Item Translation, Cross Ref, Sales Prices, Costs, SKU, Planning, etc......

If you are on premises it is possible, but only if you are modifying the base app. If you are on all extensions for on premises, it's not possible. If you are on SaaS it is also not possible.
