sales order lines-order promising

Hi,
we are a company that takes many orders from customers for future delivery, and also places future purchase orders.

we are testing the the order promising function before going live. One problem is the the system changes the shipping date to when the line is compelete, even if you have a few in stock now and the rest on a forward date purchase order.

does any one know a system to break up the sales order line into seperate lines for each date there is stock to ship to the customer.
