Component Item - purchased and manufactured in parallel

in NAV Three Tier
Hi,
I would like to have possibility to have one item (component) which should be purchased (buyed from vendor) and manufactured (by our plant) parallely at the same time.

Is any possibility how to do it with one item number? Is it possible in NAV? What should be the settings like?

    Well there is a couple of ways of achiving this:
    Depending on you needs you could do something like: having a Item (xxxx) which is a production item, then you could create a new item (xxxx) which is set to Purchase.
    After this you could set one of the to additional item of the other one, depending on how your business is working:
    Eks.: if you normal manufactor to inventory then you need one of the items, because you do not have the time to manufactor the item, then you will to buy the other item from a vendor.
    It is called Item Substitution
