Order confirmation or print sale order

Hi,
Can anyone explain to me what is the confirmation order and when it should be use in the business real life ?
For now ,I just print the sale order and send it to the customer.
But, the sale order report and the order confirmation are two differente stuff in Nav.
What are the use case for the confirmation ?
