How to emulate the main filter so that you do not have to use "@" or "*" in the search?

Hi experts!! NAV2018
The client is very heavy in that he does not want to use either "@ or *" to do the product searches by the description in the sales lines.
I think it can be done since in the main filter of any list these wildcard characters are not needed but I do not see how.
Does anyone know how it can be done?

    The 'main' filter puts in the same filter characters in the background.
    So I doubt that it will perform better.

    But the user does not have to put them and that is precisely what the customer wants

    My personal opinion is that you should not seek to do any modifications to fulfil such requirements.

    What next - will the user request one big green button "read my mind and do everything for me" and what then? But seriously things like that should be handled by training and explanation, if that does not help by friendly discussion with user's direct manager, explaining that such solutions 'de-brain' users, and user who does not understand what they are doing should not really do anything as they sooner or later screw up something.
