Hello to all,
I want to know if a file is in use, someone you would know to help me? Thanks in advance

generic file, I want to know if the file is in use, because I need to open and if the file is in use I have an error

Use RENAME to rename the file(and rename it back when successful). If the file is in use, you cannot rename it.

Also, avoid using Notepad for testing. Notepad would open the file and load its entire contents into memory and then closes the file, all of that happens in a fraction of the second. The same applies for WordPad. Use MS Word for testing, it keeps the file in use while it's being viewed.

look at the the site with the "free tools".

what i woul suggest is try to change the datestamp on the file. if you can modify last date modifed then nobody is using it.

they have a fileinuse util http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PsFile.html
