DynamicsNAV protocol handler in combination with ClickOnce

Hi experts,
I want to use an external application that runs on the client to be able to open pages in DynamicsNAV (2017).
Usually you could do just that by using the DynamicsNAV// Protocol-Handler and just pass which page you want to open.
However we are using ClickOnce - which does not support this type of handler.
I know I could just install the normal windows client, however I would really rather not if possible.
I already tried to screw around with the client registry on a test machine - without success.
Has anybody accomplished to use the ClickOnce client by using links?
Also open to all sorts of workarounds.
