use of Trace functionality in Axapta

Axapta has inbuilt functionality for Tracing Items by Batch No or Serial No across Purchase Order, Production Order,Sales Order and other transaction.
Has anybody used it in real life implementation or currently working on implementing this functionality anywhere.

I would like to know what were the actual difficulties and problems faced when the trace functionality is used in reality either in manufacturing or distribution

I cant believe that there are no Axapta people out there who have not tested the trace functionality.

Can you clarify what do you mean when you say 'tracing items' please.
Also can you clarify on the inbuilt functionality please.
