Hello everyone!
I'm just about to make the upgrade from 2013R2 to 2017. Looking in different forums and blogs, i have deduced that I need to have installed the 2017 version. Is this right? Does this new version have to be installed in the same machin, or I can install it in another machine??
Thank you

Really thanks, I've seen different blogs, with different steps and experiences, and I have messed up myself a little...
I will start with those steps, thank you again!!0 -
From which version to which version you want to upgrade?
I have upgraded from NAV 4.00 to NAV 2016 and my step by step guide is attached with this post.
I have used Merge Tool for this rather than Powershell utility. Trust me merge tool is great. at least you know what you are doing.
Mergetool is best if you have a lot of customization in Standard objects.
Please have a look and feel free to ask if you have query.Best Regards

Thank you very much for your answer and your guide, it is really helpful!
Now I find myself with another trouble, and it is about the requirements of the 2016/2017 versions. Our server does not accomplish the requirements, so now we have to change the server, so the upgrade stays on standby. Anyway, thank you again, hopefuly I'll start again soon with the upgrade.1 -
Thanks. Please accept my answer and you can contact me anytime if you need help in upgrading

Hello again,
We are looking for start the migration soon. Due to the requirements of the latest versions, we have to create another server, and here comes the doubt.
Our idea is to create the second server, with the NAV2016 installed on it, so we can make the export in the old machine(NAV2013R2), and import the objects in the new machine. Is this possible? Or should we have to install first NAV2013 in the new server, to make the imports, and after upgrade to NAV2016?
THank you all for your help, best regards0 -
are you doing only application upgrade or data upgrade also?
if data upgrade also then you need to take the backup of NAV2013R2 and restore in new server.0 -

Thank for your quick answer. Our idea is to make a migration of machine, with a full upgrade. So I guess that firstly I should have installed NAV2013R2 in the new machine, to receive the backups from the old machine, and after, make the upgrade to NAV2016. Am I right??0 -

Hello again everyone,
First of all, happy new year for everyone.
As I've explained in earlier messages, I'm doing an upgrade from NAV2013 to NA2016. Due to system requirements, I create a new server for installing the NAV2016 on it.
The first step has been to create the same situaion of the old server inthe new one, so I've installed SQL Server 2012 and NAV2013 in the new machine. I initialize nav without problem, and it opens perfectly the DEMO database. In the old server, I've created a backip of the database with the SQL Server management studio, and I've restored it in the new server, creating a new service for this database. But when I'm trying to change the server in the NAV client, appears this error:
"Actually, MIcrosof Dynamics Server is not ready to anser requests. Try it again later or contact the system administrator"
Why could this happen? May be could be because they are differences in the user between the old and new server?0 -
Is your Service running?0

Yes, it is running, and when the error appears, it automatically stops.0 -

My Demo database works fine, this approach should work with any database?0 -
yes, I tried many times copying customer databases to our environments for test upgrades.0

Thank you very much. I've solved the problem running this comand in the SQLServer Management Studio:
USE <restored_db>; TRUNCATE TABLE "User Personalization"; TRUNCATE TABLE "User Property"; TRUNCATE TABLE "Access Control"; TRUNCATE TABLE "User"; GO
I think the reason of the error had to see with the users from the old database. I finally get NAV2013 running in the new serer, now it's time to upgrade.
Thank you all!!0 -
this command removed all your users and permissions sets assigned to them and personalizations done by them. you need to create them again.0
-
Thank you mohana, really apprecate your help. We created the users, and looks to work fine.
Now I have a doubt with the upgrade. Our application code hasn't got relevant changes, so we have decided just to upgrade the data, skyping the merge step. I'm readingthat when we export the .txt files for the merge, we don't have to export system tables, which have the IDs in the 2000000000 range. In the case of not doing the merge, should I have to export them?
Really appreciate for the help from all of you, thanks!0 -
not required. you will be importing the merged objects in a latest version db which contains new version of 2000000000 series objects. hope you don't have any customizations in above series.0

Thank you very much, I'l make the export without those tables so. We are making an upgrade from our own NAV, so it's a test upgrade. The few customizations we have, are insignificant, that's why we have made this decission.
Thank you again!!!0 -
I have 2 directorios with default upgrade toolkits:
-\UpgradeToolKit\Data Conversion Tools
-\UpgradeToolKit\Local Objects
I have to include all of them, or just one in particular?
Thanks!0 -
-\UpgradeToolKit\Local Objects1

If you are using RTM NAV2013R2 then Upgrade7101000.ES0
-
Thank you very much! I've tried to find the description of those files, but I didn't find anythin, thank you again!!0

WHen I first make the synchronization , I didn't find any error. But now, after adding the upgrade toolkit, I found the next error:

Does not look good... May be some issue with one of the objects? It is a very default installation, so I don't know...0
