What is the difference between the build in export to excel vs using the excel buffer table to export a report to excel?
I've attached a picture to show what I mean by NAV 2015 report export.
Built in export to excel is a standard feature which exports the report data in to a pre defined format as per the report preview, whereas using excel buffer table you can export the report data to your own custom format and will allow you to export data on top of previewed output(to add custom fields, formats.. etc) .
To get more clarification on this please go through the standard Report 108 which uses the excel buffer table to export data and see the difference.

Default Export to Excel is - WYSWYG (what you see is what you get) which is something now best for some users in Excel due to following reasons -
1. As the Report that you put in the image have Page Header, so the Default Export to excel will bring data in excel with merged cells. This will cause issues to users when they plan to apply filter in excels.
But with Exporting data using Excel buffer you can decide what order your fields will appear and it would be easy for users to use the Excel data generated from Excel buffer.
