The (complete) move from C/AL to .Net ... when?

techniquetechnique Member Posts: 21
As my title says, I want to know if anyone knows for definite when the C/AL code language is being retired in preference of .Net as I read that Microsoft had confirmed it is happening this Christmas. But I can't for the life of me find the post again.....

Heres Waldo's blog about 2017 changes:

We are not moving totally to .net (although under the hood NAV already has been .net for a while). We just move from the Old IDE (Classic Client / Devolopement Environment) to Visual Studio Code

What is released this Christmas is a preview. The time line of when the complete IDE will move has not been shared yet. There is no decision yet on when this will happen, at least not that they are willing to share yet.

I believe the move to Visual Studio Code will initially only be for the development of extension objects (extensions version 2), so "normal" NAV development will stay the same for the time being.

    Hi,
As far as i know C/AL is not going anywhere. Only the IDE will change but C/AL will work as it works today.

    Thanks & Regards,

Do you Know this About NAV?
