SQL-server of Small Business Server

blablablablablabla Member Posts: 2
Hello,

We are about to install a new Navision server installation at a customers site.

This customer is running Small Business Server and we wonder if the integrated SQL-environment is useful to install a Navision SQL-server 4.0 on. Or should we install a new SQL-server on this server?

Another option is the normal C/Side-database.

Are there any experienced SQL-server users around here who could advise me?

Kind regards,

Michel

For Navision, SQL Server simply acts as a backend to hold the data, so it will work on a regular installation of SQL server already present. If you install Navision after SQL Server, the installation process will even take care of registering some necessary dll's for you.

Then you install the client software on client machines, and create a Navision database on the SQL Server. Read the installation manuals on the Navision product cd, it's in the Doc folder.

Yes, it is working, but what your NSC say about it?

Recommandation is "dedicated server" for Navision DB... because if you will have performance problems, you will hear - "yes, it is slow because you are running it on SBS and there is lot of load from this system" etc...

And if you are planning grow of your company, it is better to have separate HW for the server, because you can upgrade it easily than whole SBS server...

Think about it, it is on your decision and on your knowledge of your company...
