After using Word to edit Sales Quotes, Word does not close properly, and this leads to locking errors in NAV.
Our client uses NAV 2016 (build 45834), with Remote Desktop Web access. The RD Web server is Win 2012 R2 Standard, and this is separate from the NAV server and the SQL server.
Users open the NAV client through RD Web access; they then use the “Open Document” feature in NAV to launch Word.
The problem only happens if Word is closed from the “X” button. If Word is closed by going to File – Close, there is no problem.
Have you ever encountered this? Do you know if there is a fix to get the "X" button to work the same a "File - Close"?
Thanks
Alastair

You could try to close the window with the X, while you monitor the process with taskmanager or the "Process Explorer" utility you can download from https://technet.microsoft.com/da-dk/sysinternals?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396. Look for a stuck Word process and see which file handles it keep open.

Thanks for the feedback. I only saw it now (apparently my auto-alerts were not configured).
The client were using some third-party code to open Word. This code set some locks to secure the location of the Word file being worked on.
The third party provided alternative code, which opens Word but gives control back to their vertical, and this solves the locking problem. If the document is saved to another file location, the vertical won't know about it, but that is not an issue for our client.
I will mark this as solved.
