Production BOM tied to variants and not items

Been searching a lot for this topic. I get bumping into the same answer, but I will ask one last time in an experts forum.

Can you have different production BOM for each variant or it can only be tied at the item level?

Only tied to the Item in standard NAV, but shouldn't be too difficult tie to Item Variants with some development.

Thanks Kishorm. Will need to investigate that route then. Someone mentioned an existing add-on. Maybe someone has heard of it.
