We are about to start to work with Attain and found that the item description field is limited to 30 chars. We maintain a list of about 16.000 items that come via imports from vendor price lists. These price lists have descriptions up to 100 chars and more. So we need this lengt also in Attain.

Has anyone ever changed this field length? Should we do this or will this produce to much maintenance affords?

Thanks
Uwe

We usually make a new field on the Item table for the long descriptions (maybe copy the first 30 chars of the new long description into the standard Item description, or whatever is the best short description - that depends on the data really). Then you don't have to change all the reports/forms where the output fields for the description occur (these will be too small, in most cases) at once, but make the modifications when the users/project managers want the long text to be used.

john fo is right telling you, there must be done many changes. We run system over three years and yesterday I found another error about it. We have twice 80 characters.
    If usefull and practicable:
Split original description into fields description1 and description2 - 60 signs. In overview-masks you will often see as standard only desc.1. There should be most important info. Further text, which is not definitely important as search criteria, you should import in the additional text-block.
Try allways to stay in standard Navision, or spent lot of time and money every update.
