Power BI Gateway authentication error

Do you need to setup a NAV service with theCredential Type of NavUserPassword to connect PowerBI.com to NAV using the on-premise gateway?

When we try to connect to the gateway from PowerBI using the Windows authentication, we get 'AccessUnauthorized' error.

there you find following note:
You need admin credentials (or at least permissions to sales and finance data) for your Microsoft Dynamics NAV account. Only Basic (Username and Password) authentication is currently supported.

I was wondering more about using the Power BI Gateway and trying to get it working as Steven does in this blog post where he's able to connect using his windows login:

When we set up the gateway, PowerBI.com is able to see the gateway, but it still would get the authentication error.
