Hello NAV experts!
I can’t open RDLC report for NAV 2013 R2 using report designer. I can only open it using XML editor, which is not very useful.
DISCLAIMER: I already used google and found a lot of solutions, but none of them solved my problem.
My system configuration:
Windows 8.1, SQL Server Express 2012, Dynamics NAV 2013 R2, Visual Studio Professional 2012.
What I already did in order to solve the issue:
I Installed:
- Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services;
- SQL Server System CLR Types;
- Report Viewer 2012;
- Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools;
- Tried to repair Visual Studio from Control Panel;
It doesn’t help. When I open RDLC report with Visual Studio and select “Open With” in “Solution Explorer” I don’t see any RDLC constructor (kindly refer to the screenshot attached). Could you please advise how to solve it? I am totally stuck with this issue, so any advice would be really appreciated.

Did install the Microsoft sql server data tools ?
Man, thank you for your effort. Yes, I did install it - at least I can see it from "Programs and Features" tab. However, when choosing to "Modify" Visual Studio "Microsoft sql server data tools" is not listed.
It seems that Visual Studio does not recognise that "sql server data tools" are installed..
Did you tried opening it with Report Builder. I too have NAV 2013 R2 but Visual Studio Professional 2013 which runs with no issue.
NAV Dev Environment --> Tools --> Option --> Use Report Builder.
Try once executing this.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I didn't mention it, I can open report with Report Builrder. That part works well.
However, I need to open it with Visual Studio 2012.

Yes, "Web Developer Tools" is installed (can be seen on my second screenshot). Thank you for the provided link.

Issue is solved, thank you!
Dear gbierkens,
Thank you in particular. In the screenshot you attached "Microsoft sql server data tools" is presented as optional feature. At my Visual Studio 2012 Professional installation this option was unavailable.
I asked my company's admin to run Visual Studio 2012 Premium install file to check available Optional Fueatures and that was it - Visual Studio 2012 Premium installer indeed had the option "Microsoft sql server data tools". So we ticked this option and installed the module. RDLC looks great now. Thank you all once again!
