How do you Link a text box input to a shipment number?

I have created a textbox for a user to type a number. I want that input to be saved to a specific shipment number so that it always shows that number in the textbox whenever viewing shipment number page. Is this possible? If so, how?

In table we add fields.
Please check again whether you have added in table or page.

If you have added in table then it will automatically save in database.

Yes I added the textbox in the table. Does it automatically just save the number that the user types? On that table you can change the shipment number so I need the user to type in that box and have it save the custom text/number to each shipment number that they type it for.
