Navision 4.0 Install error - fin.smt

davisjdavisj Member Posts: 38
Installed Navision 4.0 (logged in as a domain admin). Connected to one of our test SQL databases. Logged in as regular user and tried to connect to same SQL database and get the following error:

"The operating system cannot gain access to the file c:\program files\microsoft business solutions-navision\client\enu\fin.smt.

Please check that the file type and attributes are correct."

Has anyone run into this problem?

It is problem that users need write permissions into Client folder... fmt is some "mini-tree" file (index file) which are dynamicaly created in the folder. It is why you need set write permission for users... (there are hmt, smt and emt files etc.)

So why don't users need rights to this folder in 3.60?

They need sometime too... for example after time zone change (daylight saving etc.), help change, after some errors etc...

Well we've finally figured out the problem. There is a group policy (in active directory) that was preventing files from inheriting permissions from their parent. Turned this off and the problem went away. #-o
