Safe to run 2013 R2 database on 2015 CU7 platform

I was wondering if there are any big risks (as in not recommended) to run a 2013 R2 database with the 2015 CU7 (platform) executables?
We need to perform a platform update to the environment anyway to get rid of some issues, but should we keep it on the latest 2013 R2 cummulative update for now or not? I hoped that by installing the 2015 CU7 now would make it easier for us to just upgrade the application code later.

We will follow this guide (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn271650(v=nav.80).aspx) when doing it, and have done it in our environmet on other databases but I was wondering more if someone had met any big issues/surprises in production cases
A problem is to be solved is the motto.
