Barcode items in a box

Hi
We have a situation where we sell individual items but packed in a box (set of 10). Each item (individual unique items/SKU) was pasted a unique bar code at the time manufacturing (identify the each items packed, not just the common item code). Items then packed and sent to stores.
We wanted to scan each items that were picked for delivery without opening pack. wanted to same for transfer orders and returns.

I suggested to print duplicate stickers of items packed and pasted them on the carton. Here,in order to print, we don't know which items will be packed together in advance.

Is there any other ideas related to this issue?

    RFID ??

Or give the outer box a unique barcode id. Then when you put items in the box scan the box id and the item ID - so the ERP system (NAV) knows which items are in each box. This way you can even recycle boxes without the need of peeling off old barcode labels.

Thanks for the reply. RFID is not suitable in this metal environment. Your idea is also good and will look into it. Anyway, Cartons are disposable cardboard with no value for us.
