Ya, like savatage said. setup a VIRTUAL location to handle these "DAMAGED" stocks, once it's repaired, you can transfer it to normal location for sale.
The out of date can be managed in the item tracking tab on the item card. Check your documentation on this. You might need to use Lot or serial number with specific settings to get the procedure correct.
To see how this stuff works you need to test all this anyway.
It sometimes react different as what can be expected, but fun is assured...

Inventory->Setup->Locations
we have 2 locations "Active" & "Damaged"
All sales orders & po's use the "Active" location.
for example when we receive a return from a company some of the merch is usually damaged the rest is good to resell.
so on the credit memo on each credit memo line we select one or the other "Location" depending on the item's status.
item1 - qty 3 - Damaged
item2 - qty 2 - Active
this way when we post the credit memo the "Active" items go back to stock and the "Damaged" items are saved seperately.
I have also created a new qty oh hand field on the item card filtering on "Active" so we know exactly what we have on the shelf.
this is how we do it. Maybe Ver 4 has some better way - i don't know.
