Word reads text from .txt file as encoded and not plain text

Hi. I want to use mail merge in Word, so I convert the relevant text from Navision into Ascii and save it as a .txt file. Then I open the .txt file from Word, but the text is read as japanese and not plain text. So special danish characters are converted into japanese signs. How do I change the setting? (I can do it manually, but this is no good since I need it to run automatically)

I didn't find any other solution then to write Codeunit that converts DOS chars to Windows 1257 encoding for Latvian language...
