Why not upgrade to NAV2015?
It has to be done in two steps. From 4.0 SP3 to NAV 2009. And from NAV 2009 to NAV 2015 (for example http://blogs.msdn.com/b/nav/archive/201 ... eased.aspx).
There are lots of posts and blogs about upgrading. Nice place to search is here on mibuso or on msdn. Or Bing or google.
You should start by reading the documentation in the NAV2009 upgrade toolkit included with the software.
If you are not using jobs and service (which were both rewritten and restructured in version 5), then it could be a straightforward upgrade depending on the data quality.
The other thing to look at is, do you want to migrate all the version 4 customizations.
