Data Deletion functionalities

In Nav 2009 -> Administration -> IT administration -> Data Deletion.

I have never tried this standard functionality. What this is used for? What is the date compression is used for also.
Please kindly explain.

It's for cleaning up the database for old data.
Think carefully what you want to delete.
Data compression cleans up the database too.
